The challenge:

Streamlining customer experience post-merger

In a historic union, Hungary's banking landscape witnessed the merger of Budapest Bank and MKB Bank in March 2022 and Takarekbank in April 2023, birthing MBH Bank on May 1, 2023. The newly established entity emerged as the country's second-biggest banking group, with a balance sheet surpassing HUF 11,785 billion.

The new bank's proclaimed mission was as ambitious as its size: to revolutionise the digital customer experience in banking. However, to achieve this, MBH Bank first needed to tackle the mammoth task of integrating different IT systems, each with its own infrastructure, processes, and workflows.

One key step in the process was developing the MBH Bank App, а mobile banking app that would provide customers with a smooth banking experience. Having successfully worked with two of the merging institutions before, Finshape was selected as the technology partner for the project.

The solution:

Building a brand new app through the power of collaboration

Finshape created the MBH Bank App almost from scratch, with some elements from Budapest Bank's previous application being reworked.
The project was complicated by a lack of prior documentation - and time. As a result, the application's scope and functionality were continuously evolving. New functions included a geolocation-based travel insurance feature, enabling real-time offers to customers.

Effective communication and collaboration were as important to the project's success as the technical implementation itself. Finshape had to discuss and negotiate every business need with all three merges and then carefully standardise the different logic of the old systems.
As MBH Bank's business requirements gradually crystallised, we revisited and tweaked the finished code.

The result:
Growing user adoption and new paths for innovation and growth

The project successfully entered the pilot phase in August, and the app was launched to the public in mid-October 2023.
